Commitment to Safety

Diamond Aircraft has a real commitment to aircraft safety, having as main objective to design models extremely safe for all occupants and at the same time a pleasure to fly.

The company is the pioneer in the use of survival airframe cabin based on F1 technology and is the only small aircraft manufacturer to perform Crash test on the entire structure, with aircraft models that withstand up to 26G impact.

Diamond aircraft have unmatched and consistent safety records over millions of flight hours worldwide, the DA40 and DA42 models, for example, have the 1st and 2nd lowest accident rates in the market, according to data from the NTSB - National Transportation Safety Board.

These rates reflect the great and exceptional effort that the factory puts in the development of aircraft adopting safety as a priority. For this, Diamond invests in two strategies: Active Safety and Passive Safety.

Active safety:

Diamond believes that the best protection against accidents is to prevent them from happening. To achieve this, they have developed active safety features that are designed to prevent accidents by assisting pilots during flight:
- Unparalleled visibility;
- Agile yet forgiving flight characteristics;
- Continued controllability through a stall;
- Positive stability;
- Reliable power;
- System and structural redundancy;
- High crosswind capability;
- Superb runway and climb performance;
- Comfortable pilot workload;

The active safety features include:

Excellent single-engine performance

Diamond's twin-engine aircraft are tested for single-engine flight, delivering excellent performance and maintaining flight safety even in this condition.

Modern avionics

Diamond is equipped with the most modern avionics such as the Garmin G1000 Nxi Glass Cockpit with autopilot.

FADEC with single-handle

The aircraft has a FADEC electronic power control system with a single handle control that makes it easier for pilots to manage engines and propellers.

Safety options

Diamond offers optional safety features such as de-icing system and weather radar, allowing operation in a broad range of weather conditions.

Crash test

Diamond is the only company that performs dynamic crash tests on the entire fuselage structure, not just the seats as is usually the case with other piston aircraft manufacturers.

This allows Diamond to test the fuselage cabin structure, seats, and restraints as a full-scale system for more accurate safety data. The company has models with proven resistance to an incredible 26G impact.

Passive safety

Keeping with the premise of ensuring the highest safety possible, Diamond has developed a second line of defense, passive safety features that seek to minimize the possibility and severity of injuries if an accident occurs through:
- Structural integrity of the cabin under crashloads;
- Effective occupant restraint;
- Impact energy absorption;
- Unobstructed headstrike zones;
- Flammable fluid fire protection.

The passive safety features include:

Survival cell


Diamond aircraft have carbon fiber composite material structure as a survival cell that is based on Formula 1 technology, providing superior protection and survival space in the event of high impact.

The cabin is composed of a non-critical structure to help absorb impact energy over a rigid and strong structure (monocoque cockpit) designed to resist crushing and penetration.

Passenger protection


Integrated fixed seats for shock energy absorption with anti-submarine geometry and three-point seat belt for effective and comfortable restraint;

Aircraft with up to 26g impact load resistance proven through Crash test;

Separable protective shields that maintain distances between heads and rigid structures and increase chances of survival.

Strong fuel lines


Flexible stainless steel braided high-pressure fuel lines that are able to move with the deformation structure with much higher rupture strength than the traditional, lightweight, thin aluminum fuel lines that are still widely used in piston aircraft by other manufacturers.

Structural design of fuel tanks


Many companies use the wing structure directly including the leading edge for fuel. However, this structural option can be catastrophic in cases of wing damage.

The DA62, DA42, and DA40 models have double massive wing structures to hold fuel in aluminum tanks sealed from the outside. The DA20, on the other hand, has the tank extremely well protected by the safe structure of the fuselage cell, but also sealed off from the cabin.
